The Smith Family Thanks Australia
Thanks to the generous support from caring Australians across the country, The Smith Family has now reached its $4 million target for the 2011 Winter Appeal.
The funds raised from the Winter Appeal will go directly towards supporting disadvantaged Australian children in 95 communities across Australia, to get the most of out their education,
so they can create better futures for themselves.
"We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making our Winter Appeal such a success," said Dr Lisa O'Brien, Chief Executive Officer at The Smith Family. "Thanks to your
support, more children in need will receive the educational opportunities they need to transform their lives."
The Smith Family's Learning for Life program supports disadvantaged children and young people all the way through their education, from pre-school and primary school, to senior
school and on to tertiary studies if they choose. This holistic, long term support gives young Australians the assistance they need to develop vital life skills, stay engaged in their
education and have the best chance to realise their potential.
Learning for Life programs including Learning Clubs which provide a safe and supportive environment for local school children to develop their learning potential and increase their confidence. At the Club the students have access to resources, expertise and assistance to support their learning. The Learning Club operates with the assistance of volunteer tutors, who
work with students to help them build on the knowledge they gain in the classroom, ensuring they get the most out of their education.
