Volunteer with The Smith Family
To create opportunities for young Australians in need by providing long-term support for their participation in education
"Every kid has a dream for their future, but they don't all have the tools to succeed. If (they're) given the chance to succeed at school, or even go on to uni, then there's a world of possibilities out there." Paul, Learning for Life tertiary student
The Smith Family is, and always has been, a volunteer based organisation. Each year we are delighted to have the support of more than 7,800 volunteers, who contribute in excess of 340,000 hours of their own time across a diverse range of activities.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organisation and without them, much of the work we do would not be possible. Each year, Australian community members and our corporate partners, volunteer their time, skills and energy to help us unlock opportunities for thousands of disadvantaged Australian children and their families.
Volunteers support The Smith Family in a variety of ways, for example volunteer mentors support youth who are looking to make the often challenging transition from school to work or further studies; volunteer tutors assist students to improve their literacy skills through our Learning Clubs; and others provide basic English language skills to help refugees and new arrivals settle into their new communities.
