Privacy Policy for Supporters

The Smith Family is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of our clients and supporters. The Smith Family supports and is bound by the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 and the National Privacy Principles. A copy of the National Privacy Principles can be found at http://www.privacy.gov.au/publications/npps01.html.

Privacy and our Supporters

The Smith Family understands that giving to an organisation is a very personal decision. We never rent, sell, lend or give away our supporter list or any other personal information collected from any of our activities including appeal letter coupons, telephone or website. We only collect personal information that is necessary for our work. The information we collect includes your name and address, payment information about your donation/s, and any communications you have with us.

How do we Use Your Personal Information?

The information we collect is used to:

  • process donations, memberships and pledges
  • issue receipts
  • respond to your comments or questions
  • provide follow up information about The Smith Family's work
  • provide selected information about Learning for Life students to their Learning for Life sponsors
  • seek your ongoing support
  • research supporter attitudes, or
  • for internal reporting purposes.

Supporters may at any time choose not to receive some or all of our supporter communications, or not to be contacted for research by calling our Supporter Care team on 1800 024 069.

Disclosure

In some cases, personal information is supplied to, or collected by, contractors who perform tasks directly on our behalf, (for example research agencies, teleservices bureaus and mailing houses which send our appeal letters, or research agencies). But rest assured, they are required to sign strict privacy and security agreements and are also bound by the National Privacy Principles. These agreements ensure that these contractors keep your personal information confidential and do not use it for any other purpose other than the work we have contracted them to perform.

We do not pass on supporters' names or personal information to any other third parties (unless required by law), or publish them in our publications or on our web-site without explicit donor permission.

Protection of Personal Information

The Smith Family also actively seeks to ensure that all personal information we collect is protected from misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We have internal data protection and electronic data transmission procedures and all donations and communications made on-line via our website are secure.

The Smith Family's Privacy Policy for supporters

If you have made a donation to The Smith Family and have received a receipt for taxation purposes, by law we must keep a record of your details for seven years. The Smith Family is also a member of ADMA (The Australian Direct Marketing Association) and adheres to the ADMA Code of Practice.
