Partnership with The Smith Family
Through its funding commitment for the next three years, Xstrata Coal will be supporting The Smith Family to increase participation in education among children from disadvantaged backgrounds in regional Queensland.
The three year initiative will provide 50 tertiary level students living in Queensland with support through The Smith Family's Learning for Life suite of education and learning support programs. These include financial assistance and access to a network of support programs which provide mentoring, tutoring and coaching to ensure they can make the most of their opportunity to create a better future for themselves.
In addition, the initiative will provide funding to support a Learning for Life Worker in Toowoomba to facilitate the delivery of the programs on the ground, directly responsible for ensuring approximately 250 children in their area benefit from the Learning for Life suite of programs.

In 2010 we are committing more than AU$12 million to assist over 50 CSI partners achieve their goals. It is deserved, it is necessary and it is making a difference to someone's life right now.
