The Smith Family is an independent children's charity helping Australian children living in disadvantage to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. As we continue to grow, we are currently seeking a Media Advisor to join our team.
Reporting to the Acting National Media Manager,you will be part of a high-performing team workingto develop content that delivers regular publicity for The Smith Family across print, broadcast, online and social media channels, which enhances TSF’s visibility to its range of stakeholders, accurately promotes its views and thought leadership, and increases general awareness about its work and the value it delivers.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Writing media releases, pitches, talking points, articles, blogs, Op-eds, profiles, case studies, newsletters, letters to the editor and speeches.
- Working closely with relevant journalists to ensure a regular presence for TSF in the media, particularly in the thought leadership space, across all platforms.
- Working with journalists and other influencers to position The Smith Family as a “thought leader” and advocate for children and families experiencing disadvantage.
- Working with TSFLearning for Lifeteams and students and families supported by the organisation to accurately capture and share their stories.
- Liaising with General Managers, Regional Program Managers,Learning for Lifeteam members and TSF supported students and families on media initiatives that support TSF’s Media Strategy.
With at least 2 years experience in media relations, your track record of achieving significant media coverage and effectively managing brand reputation will help boost The Smith Family media presence across the country. You will hold a tertiary qualification in Journalism/PR/Communications or equivalent. Your excellent communication skills will quickly form strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, and you’ll have an excellent understanding of the Australian media and digital landscape. You thrive on being part of a team to deliver results while also having the drive to work autonomously. Most of all, you care about using your skills to help some of the most disadvantaged children and families in Australia.
