Sang kick starts his career

Sang grew up in a single parent migrant family with no one in his circle to turn to for advice about university, studying and getting a job in the solar energy sector. He credits Gavin for helping him stay motivated and obtain relevant industry experience, Sang recently graduated from university and started his first full time job.

"When I was studying at uni, there was no one to talk to who [had] studied engineering or who's working, so if I needed help," Sang explains.

The pair would talk whenever Sang needed help or advice. Gavin helped Sang with assignments and provided advice on subject choices and career options. Gavin's guidance on preparing for interviews and his industry connections were crucial in helping Sang reach his goal of working in the solar industry.

"Gavin helped me with preparing my resumes and for interviews. [He] helped me get my part-time job at uni and he helped me get my summer internship. He also helped me my current job."

Sang is passionate about solar energy and one day hopes to be part of helping the world make better use of solar technology. He is grateful for all the support from The Smith Family.

They worked with me, and they helped make me who I am today. With your support I've become more motivated, more confident, and today I'm working in renewable energy."

Sang received a Learning for Life sponsorship from The Smith Family which supported his high school and university education. During his tertiary studies, he participated in The Smith Family's Tertiary Mentoring program and was matched with Gavin, a professional working in the solar industry, Sang's chosen career path.
