Where to go for support at your child’s school

A teacher assists a student with a laptop in a classroom setting. The student is writing in a notebook while the teacher points at the laptop screen. The classroom has desks, chairs, and various school supplies visible.

School life can be tricky to navigate at times.

Whether your child is just starting primary school or is already in high school, it's normal to have questions or feel unsure sometimes. The good news is you don't have to figure it out alone. There are people at your child's school who are there to help.

Here are some of the key people you can talk to if you need support:

Teachers or year coordinator/adviser

Your child's teachers or year coordinator/adviser (for high school students) are the best people to ask about school-related questions or concerns. They support students throughout the year and can help with anything related to your child's learning.

School wellbeing staff

If you're worried about your child's social and emotional wellbeing or need help with school-related expenses like books and uniforms, the Student Wellbeing or Welfare Coordinator is there to help. They can provide the support and resources you and your child might need.

Front office staff

The front office staff are the first people you'll speak to when you call the school. They can help you report your child's absence or connect you with their teachers.

Principal and Deputy Principal

The Principal and Deputy Principal are always happy to hear from parents. If you have concerns or feedback about the school, they are available to listen and help.

Extra support outside of school

Your Family Partnerships Coordinator

Your Family Partnership Coordinator can work with you to address any concerns or questions about your child's school experience. They can also refer your child to various educational programs and connect you with additional support available at school and in the community.

You can find your Family Partnership Coordinator contact details in My Smith Family

By reaching out to these people, you can ensure your child gets the support they need to succeed at school. Don't hesitate to contact them whenever you have questions or need help. Remember, you are not alone on this journey!
