Holdfast Evening VIEW Club

About

Holdfast Evening VIEW Club was formed in 2008.

Our Club celebrated our 17th Birthday in October 2025. We have around 50 Members who meet monthly for Dinner with a Guest Speaker. We sponsor 11 Students aged 8-18 years, through The Smith Family's Learning for Life Program, and arrange E-vouchers for their birthdays and Christmas each year, and we also correspond with our students.  Six of our Members correspond with our Students, and we receive heart felt letters and thank you cards from them.

We fund our students through annual major fundraisers, raffles and trading tables. We started 2025 with a Movie Afternoon Fundraiser in March, after also volunteer marshalling for the Tour Down Under.  Later we hosted on tourist mini buses for the Gather Round in the Barossa Valley, and in May, we held a very successful Fashion Parade. Not only did we raise funds to sponsor our 11 Students, but we also promoted VIEW in the community.

We welcome visitors to our Dinners. Please contact our President. You will be very welcome.

Tour Down Under in 2026

The Tour Down Under (TDU) Circuit returned to Adelaide in a very hot January, with 7 Members and a Partner volunteering to marshall and stop traffic, to allow the peloton to pass safely. Together we raised $1200 for a healthy start to our fundraising for the year.

Member Barbara volunteered on all the 8 days we could choose, becoming our TDU Queen! One day the race was moved forward an hour, due to the forecast 40 degrees…we were glad to finish those shifts!

First Social Outing in 2026

Our Program Officers organised a very successful Friendship Dinner at the Somerton Surf Club on a balmy January evening.

We enjoyed good food and good company, in a very relaxed venue. The setting sun was a bonus too. Accompanying photo shows our Members catching up again.

Celebrating 17 Years in 2025

2025 Birthday Celebrations

Recently our Club celebrated two 17th’s…firstly our Club’s 17th Birthday, but also the 17 years that PNC Lorraine has been a Member of our Club.  2025 also marks 30 years of Lorraine’s Membership of VIEW.

We took great pleasure in presenting Lorraine with a photo book of her 17 years at Holdfast, lovely flowers and we all paraded our Lorraine Baker masks for a bit of fun. Lorraine said she was on a high for days!

Fabulous Guest Speaker

We also welcomed Sergeant Jodie Clarke as our Guest Speaker. Jodie is a trailblazer for women’s deployment in the Australian Army where she spent 21 years in logistics, before more recently, 23 years deployed by the U.N.

Jodie has completed 13 missions overseas, the latest to Gaza. Jodie was born in Broken Hill to the delight of our many Members, who were also born there.

Colourful Trading Tables

A highlight of our Birthday were the lovely raffle basket prizes, and the baked goods, plant, art and jewellery stalls, all of which contributed to a nice fundraiser for our Club.

Making a Difference in September 2025

At our September Luncheon, we were delighted to present Margaret and Athalie our long serving Program Officers, with these awards.  For many years, they have organised great fundraisers, an inspiring program of Speakers and our many Outings.

Photos show the Presentation of Citations and Flowers to recipients Margaret and Athalie by President Rosie, Annette, and Cathy.

We were proud their Awards would have been recognised at the recent Brisbane VIEW Convention.

Celebrating 65 Years of VIEW

In August our Club held a special sapphire lunch to honour VIEW’s 65 Birthday, at the Grand Hotel, Glenelg,

Members, along with the decor all looked fabulous, along with a seafront vista. Despite it being Adelaide’s stormiest day, we had a delicious meal and great company

Successful Fundraiser in May 2025

Our Annual Fashion Parade on May 28th ’25 was a huge success, both for the over $4000 raised for TSF and our 11 students, but also the friendship so evident on the day, with 125 attending, including many visiting friends, and other VIEW Club supporters.

We hosted a Devonshire Morning Tea at Club Marion with bubbles on arrival, followed by delicious scones, jam and cream, and endless tea and coffee!

Fella Hamilton provided the models and lovely fashions, and our Members provided the 13 Raffle Prizes, and trading tables of cakes, plants, jewellery and wine, plus mini auction.  A great effort by our Club Members and Supporters!

Special thank you to our wonderful Program Officers, Athalie and Marg, who can be seen in the far left photo.

Celebrating VIEW's 65th Birthday

Representatives from our Club were honoured to be invited to a Cocktail Reception hosted by our Governor, the Hon. Frances Adamson AC and Mr Rod Bunten, at Government House recently, for 90 S.A. VIEW Club representatives. This was in honour of VIEW’s 65th Anniversary.  National President Elizabeth Birch attended, as did VIEW National Manager, Mary-Anne Maher.

We all enjoyed glamming up and meeting together, in the historic vice regal residence for drinks and canapes, whilst our Governor and National President gave short addresses. Afterwards, 50 of us walked to The Strathmore Hotel for dinner together, on a balmy evening.

Bounce-Around-The-Barossa

During the Gather Round AFL Weekend held in Adelaide and the Barossa Valley in March, VIEW was offered at short notice, the opportunity to be tour guides on the free minibuses travelling between the Lyndoch Oval AFL games, and other Barossa attractions.

Our Members joined other Clubs in this fun, but tiring activity, over 4 days, raising funds for VIEW. Great effort VIEW Volunteers!

Successful Movie Afternoon

at-the-movies-fundraiser

A Sunday Afternoon screening of the Movie White Bird with Helen Mirren and Gillian Armstrong at The Capri Theatre, was our first major 2025 Fundraiser, towards sponsoring our 11 Students.

Members from other VIEW Clubs, and VIEW partners supported the event. Your support was appreciated.

In the Foyer, patrons could purchase raffle tickets, and enjoy a drink from the Bar, before the winners were announced.
