Holdfast Evening VIEW Club
About
Holdfast Evening VIEW Club was formed in 2008.
Our Club celebrated our 18th Birthday in October 2026. We have around 50 Members who meet monthly for Dinner with a Guest Speaker. We sponsor 11 Students aged 8-18 years, through The Smith Family's Learning for Life Program, and arrange E-vouchers for their birthdays and Christmas each year, and we also correspond with our students. Six of our Members correspond with our Students, and we receive heart felt letters and thank you cards from them.
We fund our students through annual major fundraisers, raffles and trading tables. We started 2025 with a Movie Afternoon Fundraiser in March, after also volunteer marshalling for the Tour Down Under. Later we hosted on tourist mini buses for the Gather Round in the Barossa Valley, and in May, we held a very successful Fashion Parade. Not only did we raise funds to sponsor our 11 Students, but we also promoted VIEW in the community.
In January 2026, we raised $1200 for our students, volunteering as marshals at the Tour Down Under. In May, we organised a Movie Evening at Wallis Cinema, Glenelg, for the new release The Devil Wears Prada 2 and in June, participated for the first time in The Dream Run raising over $2,500 for The Smith Family.
This year we have also raised $1620 in the People First Community Lottery, exceeding our target of $1500. We look forward to our final major fundraiser for 2026, an evening Fashion Parade on October 28th with Snazzi Boutique. We are very proud of our many fundraising activities during the year.

Fun Fundraising 2026
City To Bay Fun Run
Fourteen of our Holdfast Evening VIEW Club Members volunteered for the annual City-Bay Fun Run to Glenelg, in perfect Spring weather. Over 30,000 participants this year, kept our 5 Traffic Controllers busy, while a further 4 Members managed baggage control at the Finish.
Many Members were also heavily involved in administration prior to the day, with data entry of registrations, and distributing lanyards prior to the day. It was well worth a 5.30am start to volunteer at this superbly organized event, and receive so many thank yous from participants for our volunteering.
A wonderful boost to our Club’s fundraising for our Learning for Life students was a nice bonus of a fun day.

October 2026 - Celebrating Our 18th Birthday
Coming Up Roses
Everything is coming up Roses was the theme for our 18th Birthday this year, with beautiful table decorations by our Member, Julie.
Guest Speaker
Rebecca Morse, journalist and radio and TV presenter was our entertaining Guest Speaker, explaining her media roles as ABC TV National News Presenter, Co-Presenter of Channel 10’s The Project, and recently podcaster.
Cathy Makes A Difference
A Making a Difference Award was presented to our Club Treasurer, Cathy H. by President Rosie for her expert keeping of our finances and reporting, and managing our 11 Learning for Life Students, all, when unable to personally attend Dinners for many months, recently.

Popular Raffles
Shirley, pictured on the left, coordinated the raffles, while Past National Councillor Lorraine, pictured on the right, was thrilled to win 2 prizes from 3 tickets!
Lorraine was S.A.’s first Zone Councillor at the time of our Inauguration, and she shared with us, notes from our first Interest Meetings held in Glenelg, in 2018.

Supporting The Dream Run for the month of June
Eleven Members of our Club volunteered to register in The Smith Family’s The Dream Run to raise funds through donations, by walking as many days in June as we could manage.

May Fund Raising 2026
Our Movie Evening at Wallis Cinemas Glenelg, was the newly released The Devil Wears Prada 2.
We had a great audience, and our members had donated very generous major raffle prizes, as well as made delicious food to sell at the Baking table. We were fortunate to raise significant funds towards our student sponsorships.

April Outing to the Adelaide Hills 2026
Autumn is the ideal time to visit the Hills so we ventured to The Cedars, the home of the late Sir Hans Heysen at Hahndorf. We toured the Studio of the Artist, the home (top in the picture) and the beautiful gardens, before enjoying Morning Tea on the verandah (below right). Then followed a car ride to Verdun, to enjoy a delicious lunch at Fourth Hill Café (below left). The weather, food and conversation made for a lovely Autumn Day.
Tour Down Under in 2026
The Tour Down Under (TDU) Circuit returned to Adelaide in a very hot January, with 7 Members and a Partner volunteering to marshall and stop traffic, to allow the peloton to pass safely. Together we raised $1200 for a healthy start to our fundraising for the year.
Member Barbara volunteered on all the 8 days we could choose, becoming our TDU Queen! One day the race was moved forward an hour, due to the forecast 40 degrees…we were glad to finish those shifts!

First Social Outing in 2026
Our Program Officers organised a very successful Friendship Dinner at the Somerton Surf Club on a balmy January evening.
We enjoyed good food and good company, in a very relaxed venue. The setting sun was a bonus too. Accompanying photo shows our Members catching up again.
