Holdfast Evening VIEW Club

About

Holdfast Evening VIEW Club was formed in 2008.

Our Club celebrated our 16th Birthday in October 2024. We have around 50 Members who meet monthly for Dinner with a Guest Speaker. We sponsor 11 Students aged 8-18 years, through The Smith Family's Learning for Life Program, and arrange E-vouchers for their birthdays and Christmas each year, and we also correspond with our students.  Four of our Members share corresponding with our Students, and we receive heart felt letters from them.

We fund our students through annual major fundraisers, raffles and trading tables. We started 2025 with a Movie Afternoon Fundraiser in March, after also volunteer marshalling for the Tour Down Under in January, to further raise funds for our Club.

We welcome visitors to our Dinners. Please contact our President. You will be very welcome.

Celebrating VIEW's 65th Birthday

Representatives from our Club were honoured to be invited to a Cocktail Reception hosted by our Governor, the Hon. Frances Adamson AC and Mr Rod Bunten, at Government House recently, for 90 S.A. VIEW Club representatives. This was in honour of VIEW’s 65th Anniversary.  National President Elizabeth Birch attended, as did VIEW National Manager, Mary-Anne Maher.

We all enjoyed glamming up and meeting together, in the historic vice regal residence for drinks and canapes, whilst our Governor and National President gave short addresses. Afterwards, 50 of us walked to The Strathmore Hotel for dinner together, on a balmy evening.

Bounce-Around-The-Barossa

During the Gather Round AFL Weekend held in Adelaide and the Barossa Valley in March, VIEW was offered at short notice, the opportunity to be tour guides on the free minibuses travelling between the Lyndoch Oval AFL games, and other Barossa attractions.

Our Members joined other Clubs in this fun, but tiring activity, over 4 days, raising funds for VIEW. Great effort VIEW Volunteers!

Members from other VIEW Clubs, and VIEW partners supported the event. Your support was appreciated.

In the Foyer, patrons could purchase raffle tickets, and enjoy a drink from the Bar, before the winners were announced.

Tour Down Under in 2025

Tour Down Under Marshalling (TDU) starts off 2025.  Some of our Members participated in our first marshalling as volunteers for the TDU in Adelaide in January. We raised $450 for our Club, and had a lot of fun.

Local Children's Author the renowned Mem Fox (shown in photo) took us back to younger days reading to us from her fabulous books including Possum Magic, and imploring us to read to children from birth onwards, for at least 10 minutes a day.

Fabulous Fund Raising Stalls in October 2024

Members contributed donations for fabulous stalls at our Birthday.

Designer glass jewellery was donated by its creator, joining other jewellery treasures, while we had a stall for Chocoholics and a stall for Wine buffs too. All resulted in a significant profit increase this Birthday, towards funding our 11 Students.

Baby Photos on Display in 2024

Our Delegate Gail collected all our baby images, and compiled them into table groupings, and a presentation for our Dinner.

We sat at the table with our image, and had to guess the baby images of all sitting at the table. Lots of fun and a small fundraiser too. What VIEW cuties we are!

Fabrics of War Quilt Exhibition in 2024

These quilts were made from the blended wool of military uniforms by men in the field of war, or on returning home, from 1760 onward. Annette Gero has collected the quilts. We were amazed at their intricacy.
