Myall River VIEW Club

About

Myall River VIEW Club was formed in 1997.

Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest on the Myall River in coastal New South Wales is consistently identified as having one of, if not the, oldest median age of any community in Australia according to the ABS, the Australian Bureau of Statistics. With a median age reaching as high as 69 in recent reports, it is a popular retirement destination, with a population dominated by retirees and a significantly higher proportion of seniors compared to the national average.

However, this doesn’t mean we are slow or staid! Our VIEW Club has interesting activities such as 10 Pin Bowling, Croquet, excursions, great guest speakers and members have a thoroughly fun time fund-raising to support our 10 students.

We are always open to new members, so please get in touch and come along to see what we do and why we do it.

Acknowledging International Women's Day

Members heard a fascinating talk by Ros as she spoke about her time in charge of, and teaching at a women’s college in Dubai in the UAE. The difference in the lifestyle of women in the UAE and in Australia was quite remarkable, with Australian women living a much freer lifestyle.

L-R: Ros received a perfect rose in appreciation of her fascinating talk, presented by Club member Judy

VIEW NA01 Port Stephens International Women's Day 2026

On Monday 9th March Port Stephens held its International Women’s Day breakfast, at the Murrook Culture Centre, hosted by Meryl Swanson Federal Member for Paterson, Kate Washington State Member for Port Stephens and Leah Anderson Mayor of Port Stephens who is also a member of the Nelson Bay VIEW Club.

Over 300 attended this fantastic International Women’s Day event with 27 VIEW Club members with representatives from Myall River, Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace and Tilligerry VIEW Clubs.  Also present was Angie Carroll National Vice President, Anne-Louise O’Connor Past National President as well as Leanne Ferguson and Breanna Landwehr from The Smith Family Communities for Children.  Two of our VIEW ladies even won a raffle prize!!

VIEW Club was also fortunate enough to have a stall at this event giving members the opportunity to promote VIEW to the wider community.  Many of the guests attending showed an interest in VIEW and our connection with The Smith Family including one person whose mother had been a member of the Hervey Bay VIEW Club.  A stall has been booked for the 2027 IWD!

It was an amazing day especially hearing from students from 7 of the local schools which was very inspiring knowing our future is in good hands.

July 2025 Birthday Celebrations

Members and guests celebrated our Club's 28th birthday with a fun filled day, the highlight of which was an hilarious Op-Shop Fashion Parade where the models's outfits were sourced from local op-shops. It was exciting to have Michael Jackson (aka Ros) and Dame Edna (aka Judy) in attendance.

May 2025 Tribute to Mothers Everywhere

As a tribute to mothers everywhere, guest speakers for May were the mother/daughter team of past president Rhonda Jurd and her daughter Audra Taylor. Rhonda told a fascinating tale of the females in her family from her “granny-granny-granny-grandmother” to herself as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The story was then taken up by Audra from her childhood to her children and her children' children.
