Story of The Tree in June 2025
Background information about Our Tree provided by Wendy Hollingsworth:
In my first year as Delegate, at the end of year Zone Conference, our then Zone Councillor Lerlene Burrows gifted each club a Lilypilly tree. This tree was to represent the growth between The Smith Family, VIEW Club and the students who have been sponsored through VIEW Clubs. The club could do what they wish with the tree. Most chose to raffle it off, but I put to our club that we donate it somewhere in Logan where it can be enjoyed by many in the years ahead and have the room to grow to its full potential. I nurtured the tree till we found a home for it.
The day came and we had an event for the planting of the tree. It was positioned in a great spot in between the Logan Gardens and the Council offices. While the hole was being dug, Councillor Teresa Lane suggested we get out of the heat and go to the Council offices for a cuppa. We had a lovely time and got to catch up with Councillor Jon Raven (now Mayor) as well as Councillor Karen Murphy. Then we went back down to do the planting of the tree.
Fast forward to now and I went and checked on our tree to see how it was growing and as you can see in the photo, it is growing beautifully.
April 2025
Our guest speaker for April 2025 was Ian Aves, chair of Legacy Logan Contact Group, which is a part of Legacy Brisbane.
Ian spoke of the incredible history of Legacy Australia, how it came to be, and the vital support that Legacy Logan gives to the children, partners, and families of veterans. We were very grateful to have Ian come and talk about the inspiring work of Legacy.
