International Women's Day 2025

In March our Club hosted International Women's Day with more than 75 Members, including from Point Lonsdale, Ocean Grove Day, Geelong Day; Geelong Evening: Ocean Grove Evening, Leopold, and  invited guests

Guest speakers included Club Member Susanne who gave an overview of her 38 years as an accredited International and Olympic Archery Judge. Her last Olympic Archery Judge event was the Paris Olympic games 2024.   Maria Dimpoulous AM   Maria gave a reflection of her life as a 6 year old arriving in Australia with her father and brother from Greece. How that experience  shaped her lifelong desire for human rights, justice and inclusion sparked in her a deep commitment to challenge the barriers that stand in the way of equity and opportunity for all, especially for women, migrants, refugees, and communities often pushed to the margins.

Today, Maria is nationally and internationally recognised as a leading expert in these areas, working across all levels of government, community and business to ensure that human rights and social justice are not just ideals, but practical realities.  Her contributions to Australia’s multiculturalism and her tireless advocacy for women and diverse communities have been widely recognised - appointed a Member of the Order of Australia, to receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Migration Council of Australia and, currently the Chairperson of Safe and Equal, Victoria’s peak body for family violence services, and a member of the Coronial Council of Victoria.  A passionate and inspirational speech enjoyed by all present.
