We hope everyone is thriving and enjoying the last moments of winter before the beautiful arrival of spring! As we enter the 8th month of the year, let’s make the most of this time and embrace the delightful experiences that lie ahead.

This August meeting holds significant importance as we will vote on three proposed resolutions aimed at calling the State and Federal governments to action through our initiative, VOICE of VIEW.

Guest Speaker:
Linda Munro - Facilitator and volunteer for the Ballina Resettlement and Welcome Network, a support group dedicated to welcoming, assisting, and integrating newly arrived refugees during their first year.

Welcome to August and Happy Birthmonth to JO!

 Dear Ladies,

A big hello to ALL of you!  I don't know about you, but it feels like it's a longer wait between our Christmas in July meeting and the August one. It is still chilly and a wee wet, and the layers are staying on this week for sure!

More importantly, we wish the young lady, Jo Brazel, a lovely birthday celebration this month!

Here's a list of what to look forward to this month. Enjoy!

🌏 August Down Under: Fun Facts from the Southern Hemisphere

While August brings late summer to the north, it’s a whole different story here in the Southern Hemisphere—especially in Australia! Here’s what makes August a unique and exciting time of year:

❄️ Winter’s Final Stretch
It’s the last full month of winter, with chilly mornings in the south and dry, sunny days up north. Perfect for cozy fires or tropical getaways.

🐋 Whale Watching at Its Best
August is peak season for humpback whale migrations along the east and west coasts. Head to Hervey Bay, Byron Bay, or even Perth for a spectacular show. How lucky are we to enjoy this incredible sight here in Lennox Head!

🎿 Snow Sports Galore
The Australian Alps are in prime condition for skiing and snowboarding. Resorts like Thredbo and Perisher come alive this time of year.

🌼 Wattle Blooms Begin
Golden wattle—the national floral emblem—starts blooming late August, bringing a bright yellow preview of spring. Wattle Day is just around the corner (Sept 1)!

🌌 Starry Nights
Clear winter skies = incredible stargazing. Spot the Milky Way, Southern Cross, and Magellanic Clouds across Australia’s dark skies.

🌺 Wildflower Watch in WA
Western Australia’s famous wildflowers begin their bloom, marking the start of one of the most stunning natural displays on Earth.

🦘 Wildlife on the Move
Koalas get vocal during their mating season, and kangaroos love the cooler weather—keep your eyes peeled in the bush!

🏉 Footy Frenzy
August means finals fever in the AFL. The atmosphere, especially in Melbourne, is electric as teams fight for their spot in September.

Whether you’re chasing snow, sun, or a whale’s tail, August offers something magical across Australia. ❄️🌸☀️

We hope to see you all during our dinner meeting on Tuesday, 12th August.

Till then, be safe and enjoy life!

July 2025 Birthdays

The Fun Facts Bit    July – The Month of Julius Caesar.

The Romans originally referred to July as Quintilis, which was the month of the fifth season. It was the fifth month of the year until January and February were added in 450 BC. The Latin word for fifth gave it its name.  Later, the name was changed to Julius in honour of Julius Caesar, the famous Roman general and politician. Caesar was born on July 12th, and the month was named in his honour after he became dictator of Rome in 47 BC.

Additionally, July is the seventh month of the year in the current Gregorian calendar. Another fascinating fact is the realisation that the halfway point of a calendar year is July 2nd. If you need to reflect on the first six months and wish to start the second six months with new resolutions or goals, July 2nd is the time to do it!!

The month of July is typically considered the midpoint of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Alternatively, in the Southern Hemisphere, July marks the middle of the winter season.
Celebrate July and every day, for that matter.

Happy days! Li, on behalf of the Committee

Our fellow club member,  Jane Tucker , hosted the event. Jane's family owns the  Peacetree Estate  in Margaret River, which produces organic wines with no artificial additives or preservatives.   Everyone enjoyed the evening, indulging their palate and broadening their knowledge of wine without consuming it.

This was an interactive evening that Jane guided us through, evaluating a wine using the 5 S's: See, Swirl, Sniff, Sip, and Savour.

Club members at Fun Evening

Our Club

The idea for an evening VIEW Club in Lennox Head was conceived on an early morning walk with friends along the beach.   It had been the dream of long time VIEW member Marie Hicks that a club for the younger women of Lennox Head be formed. After a couple of months of discussions with those who were interested the club was formed, a committee chosen and over 70 women celebrated the "birth" of the new club! The Inaugural Meeting was held in the Beef+Beach Restaurant at the Lennox Point Hotel on Tuesday 9 October 2012. We now join more than 16,000 other Australian women in their commitment in raising awareness of and participating in the work of The Smith Family.
