Gelato sales provide sweet start to school year

Italian restaurant franchise Fasta Pasta is serving up sweet treats to help children from disadvantaged homes taste success at school this week.

Thanks to its partnership with The Smith Family, Fasta Pasta will donate proceeds from its gelato sales to help the children’s charity deliver learning support and mentoring programs.

Each person who visits a Fasta Pasta restaurant throughout January and early February has the option of donating $1 to The Smith Family in return for two scoops of gelato.

Fasta Pasta embarked on a national partnership with The Smith Family early last year to assist young Australians in need to get the most out of their education to create better futures for themselves.

“With donations to The Smith Family down in recent months, it’s very important for corporate businesses to do their bit to help,” Fasta Pasta Chief Executive Frank Taddeo said.  

“Education is the key to changing lives and we believe very passionately in The Smith Family’s mission and its programs provide vital learning outcomes among disadvantaged Australian children.”

The gelato campaign runs until February 9, 2014.

The Smith Family General Manager for SA and NT Graham Jaeschke said the money would help support their annual Back to School Appeal.

“Donations from Fasta Pasta and its generous customers will go a long way towards supporting children as they go back to school this year,” he said.

“By giving people access to the same educational and life opportunities many of us take for granted, we can break the cycle of disadvantage and ensure these children get the same learning opportunities as their peers.”
