- Time Commitment: One-day Event Saturday 5th July, 9am to 4pm including a 1hr Volunteer briefing prior to the event. Choose an all-day, AM or PM shift. Full day 9am to 4pm, AM shift 9am to 1pm and/or PM shift 12noon to 4pm (including one induction/briefing)
Support Volunteers for this event will help with the smooth running of the 2025 NAIDOC Family Funday Event. During this one-day event, volunteers will assist with set-up/pack-down of activities as well as activity supervision, queue control and general assistance for patrons. Volunteers will support the smooth running of this one-day community event.
Through this rewarding one-day event on Saturday 5th July, support volunteers will assist the operation of the NAIDOC – Family Fun Day by supporting the Communities for Children team to deliver activities, First Nations Elders and community members.
Volunteers are likely to experience a sense of satisfaction in giving back to the community, skill development, social interaction, increased awareness of community engagement and participation in a fun day out for patrons. This role provides the opportunity to use and enhance communication and relationship skills, alongside other passionate team members
Key tasks:
Volunteers will support by:
- Assisting in set-up and pack-down of event activities, i.e. face painting, cultural art activities, information stalls etc.
- Assist and support for First Nations Elders, engaging in conversations, some may need assistance to walk, assisting with supplying beverages i.e. water, coffee, tea etc.
- Assisting the Communities for Children team to supervise activities, engagement with event patrons; queue control, photo consent forms and other general duties where needed, to provide a positive experience for the local community
- There is a physical requirement for this role, volunteers must be willing and able to be on their feet most of day, roles can be adapted to individual abilities
- Assisting stall holders, entertainers and contractors with lunch breaks, toilet breaks, providing them with water and other refreshments if/as needed
- Engaging and supporting event patrons i.e. assisting with directions
- Supporting Canterbury Bankstown City Council with event activities
- General duties that include clean-up of event grounds. Picking up and removing any trash left on grounds, tables
- Report any hazards or risks, i.e., toilets not working
Competencies / Desirable skills:
- Volunteers must be 18yrs and over to apply
- Desirable – First Nations Cultural Awareness
- Confidence in engaging and supporting First Nations Elders and community
- Excellent soft and interpersonal skills
- Be adaptable as tasks may vary/change
- Ability to display patience, openness and a welcoming manner
- Some tasks may involve skills in arts or crafts
- Ability to follow and provide clear and concise directions under guidance from the Volunteer Manager
