Alcoa renews commitment to supporting Kwinana kids in need

Alcoa is proud to announce a decision to extend its partnership with The Smith Family, Australia’s largest independent education-oriented children’s charity. The partnership will benefit children in need in Kwinana through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.

The Learning for Life program supports young people in need all the way through their education, from primary school, to senior school and on to tertiary studies if they choose.

“A renewed partnership with The Smith Family supports our vision to invest in local youth programs. Education is so important and we look forward to working with The Smith Family in 2014 through this community partnership.” Tim Maclean, Alcoa Kwinana Refinery Manager.

In addition to Alcoa’s financial support of the Learning for Life program, staff from the Kwinana refinery have been volunteering their time to help run The Smith Family’s local Learning Clubs.

Learning Clubs are safe, supportive out of school hours learning environments, where students have the opportunity to access resources, expertise and assistance with their homework and curriculum content.

Greg Ryan-Gadsden, General Manager for The Smith Family WA said, “We are very grateful for the generous support Alcoa has given The Smith Family to help deliver our Learning for Life program to disadvantaged children and their families across Kwinana.

“We are thrilled to further our partnership with Alcoa in 2014 and thank them for their continued support of our work in the local community.”
