What are The Smith Family Retail Stores?

Did you know that every purchase from a Smith Family store supports programs to help disadvantaged children to succeed at school?

We have 19 retail stores across New South Wales and the ACT where you can find an excellent range of new and near new women's, children's and men's clothing, accessories and manchester.

With a large volume of donations, our stock changes regularly, so there's always something new in store. We're currently investing in our retail stores to make the shopping experience even better and we need great volunteers to help us support disadvantaged children to succeed at school.

What does a Stock Handling Assistant do?

This role assists the store manager and Retail team by ensuring adequate stock is on the floor. This includes sorting and preparing donated stock for sale or redistribution, preparing stock to a high standard in accordance with store processes regarding stock placement, preparation and display

What does a Warehouse Assistant do?

This role assists in the smooth running operation of the store warehouse, including by salvaging/sorting incoming donations, liaising with the general public during furniture/donation interactions, and helping to prepare items for sale.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accepting, sorting and cleaning of donations ready for placement on the store floor
  • Hanging, steaming and stock ready for placement on the floor
  • Moving stock onto the floor in the correct location and colour-code
  • Assisting with stock management and general housekeeping duties
  • Providing exceptional customer service as per The Smith Family service standard
  • Taking a proactive approach to WH&S in accordance with store policies and procedures, in particular unpacking boxes in accordance with manual handling policies and the correct use of tagging guns and pens whilst labelling stock (eg by size and colour), and correct storage
  • Alerting the store manager of any hazards that may be come present in the store

Key skills/qualities include:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Professional ethical standard in alignment with The Smith Family code of conduct
  • Demonstrates initiative and with a “can do attitude”
  • Retail Certificate 1 or previous retail experience is highly regarded

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing exceptional customer service for furniture pickups/drop offs as per TSF service standard
  • Salvaging and sorting activities in accordance with store policies and procedures
  • Assisting with stock management and general housekeeping duties
  • Taking a proactive approach to WH&S in accordance with store policies and procedures
  • Reporting any hazards reporting to store manager or person in charge

Key skills/qualities include:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Professional ethical standard in alignment with The Smith Family code of conduct
  • Demonstrates initiative and with a “can do attitude”
  • Manual handling training is highly regarded
